Well, not completely, but my wife's IBM Workpad C30, which she has had for about 3 years or so will not hold a charge more than 2-3 days and that is without any use. I have 4 options that I have not discussed with her yet:
1) Buy the internal battery ($25.00), unseal the PDA, replace the battery, and seal the PDA back up. This kinda scares me since I am not overly delicate with small electronics.
2) Buy her a new one, knowing that even the newer ones are "nicer" (color, photos, more memory, "cuter") but are not nearly as durable as her old one.
3) Have her go back to a paper calendar, address book, and sticky notes and go without a PDA.
4) Have it repaired by a "specialist" and be charged a minimum of $100...a lot more than it is worth.
I do not really want to go to the time and expense of replacing the battery on an old PDA that is worth about what the replacement battery costs. The basic model of the new ones run rings around her Palm Vx clone, but they are not very durable IMHO, but she is easier on them than I am. My Tungsten E looks pretty rough and it is only a couple of years old. I like the style but I have not been really pleased with the performance. It has had a few issues of its own.
I guess I will just do a Hotsync to the PC and look into getting her a new one, but I want to make sure that is what she wants. I could give her my old one and get new one myself, but that would be kind of wasteful. That is how she got the one she has now...I got it and when I got a good deal (well at the time) on a Treo 90 from a colleague, I jumped on it and gave my wife the Palm Vx clone. She loves it. It is perfect for what she wants a PDA to do and is very easy on batteries unlike the newer color ones with bright screens and heftier processors.
